Eric Turning Heart

Funeral services for Eric Turning Heart, 28, of Eagle Butte, will be held at 11:00 AM (MT), Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the Bingo Hall in Eagle Butte. Burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. An all-night wake service will begin with a prayer service at 6:00 PM (MT) on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Bingo Hall. Eric passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte.
Eric Turning Heart was born November 21, 1996, to Aaron Lane Turning Heart and Sherri Louise Shepherd. He was welcomed with love by his older sister, Mindy Turning Heart, older brother Jorge A. Shepherd along with his other siblings, Jaymalee Turning Heart and Jordan Turning Heart.
Eric attended Eagle Butte Head Start and graduated from Deer Lodge County, Galen, Montana in 2015. Eric loved basketball, football, skateboarding, and all of his friends he came across.
Eric will always be remembered for his smile, laugh and his humor. He was always joking around and making you laugh and smile. He was always happy, super kind, extra caring and loving and always giving props and hugs, telling you "Stay up G". Eric was a very compassionate person, if you treated him with respect, he gots you!. He resolved all problems around him and for the boys and the ones he loved. He was always making sure everyone was ok and good.
On April 21, 2017, he welcomed his first baby girl, Skye Rhayne Turning Heart with Kiara Collins. He adored her and was so happy when she was born, even to this day he would be so proud of her.
Eric earned his heavy equipment, carpentry, power industrial lift trucks certification and worked as a heavy equipment operator at Oyate Connections and Bitter Masonry labor.
Eric is survived by his big sister, Mindy (Arlo Labeaux) Turning Heart and big brother, Jorge A Shepherd, little sister, Jaymalee Turning Heart (Jamalia Franzen), little brother, Jordan Turning Heart, children; Skye Rhayne Turning Heart, nieces, Raquel Mesteth, Aubrey Turning Heart, nephews, Octavian Mesteth, Aiden Turning Heart, X'Ander Mesteth, cousins, Jay (Rolland), Marques (Taidyn and Haidyn) and Kaled (Tyan), aunties, Nickie (Cheezy) and her husband Gary Cudmore, uncles Jay (Kim) Shepherd, Jeff (Julie) Turning Heart, Dion and Jason Turning Heart, Kayla (Ryan), Traci (Jeffrie) Shai.
Eric was preceded in death by his mom, Sherri Shepherd, dad, Arron Turning Heart Jr., grandmother, Gladys Turning Heart and Kathleen Talks, sousins, Brent "Chunky" Bagola and East Lee, uncle Juan Turning Heart and Grandpa Aaron Turning Heart Sr.
