Mr. Eric Carl Hue, Sr. born on March 15, 1932, in Morant Bay, Jamaica W. I., passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at 4:02 a.m. He was the beloved husband of Dr. Reverend Hyacinth B. Hue, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
Eric was the seventh of eight children born to Walter George and Mildred Chen Hue. He was the last surviving member of his first-generation Chinese Jamaican family, preceded by his siblings Pearl Hue, Kathleen (Frederick) Lyn, Madge (Stanley) Chin, Enid (Batt) Chen, Alvin (Doris Hugh) Hue, Kenneth (Geraldine) Hue, and Cecil Hue. He is survived by his sister-in-law Rosalie Hue.
In his youth and after WWII, Eric's ambition drove him to England to assist in the country's rebuilding efforts. However, his heart remained in Jamaica, where he returned to work with his sister's family bakery and for Asphalt Paving, Inc. On January 7, 1960, he married his love Hyacinth nee Simmonds. They later migrated to the United States, building a life in The Bronx and upstate Goshen, NY, before retiring to Sanford, Florida.
Eric's career was as diverse as his life experiences. He worked in manufacturing, owned a luncheonette, catered for the NYC School Meals program, retiring as a medallioned New York City yellow cab driver. In retirement, Eric and Hyacinth returned to Jamaica and founded ZOE (Life) Retreat, Missionary and Ministries, Inc., in Tweedside, Clarendon Jamaica. Their philanthropic efforts include establishing a nursing school and providing healthcare services to their community.
Eric leaves behind his devoted children: Cheryl (d. Stephen Hartnett, m. Peter Espersen), Jacinth (Wendell Beckford), Patrick (dv. Patricia, m. Della), Michelle Hue, Andrea (Michael Gadd, Sr.), André (dv. Nina), Eric Jr. (Marilu), Jeréz Hue, Hervé (Audrey), and Dominic (Natasha) and Donna Lyn Chong (d.2021). He is remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews - all who brought him immense joy.
Grand-children: Joshua (Cortney), Kendra (Nate Ipsen), Sarai Hartnett, Rebecca Hartnett, Thayne (Rachel), Thaddeus Hartnett, Carson Hartnett, Garith Hartnett, Bernadette Willer, Jasmine Brown, Chaisson Hue, Jacqueline Brito (Adrienne), Justin Brito, Jared Gadd, Ryan (Alyssa), Michael Gadd, Jr. (Lauren), Harrison Hue, Angelica Hue, Eric Hue III, Rachel Hue, Marlaina Hue, Gabriel Hue, Harper Routliffe-Hue, Hudson Routliffe-Hue, Theodora Routliffe-Hue, Evangeline Routliffe-Hue, Monique Birdsong-Hue, Sophia Birdsong-Hue, Alastair Hue, Dominic Hue, Jr.
