Eric Baldur Kuhnel, age 91, of Lynn Haven, Florida, formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, departed this life on October 4, 2025. Eric was born on June 23, 1934, in Syracuse, NY to Maximilian and Lena Hild Kuhnel as a first generation American.
After a family vacation to the St. Petersburg, FL area in the 1960s, Eric moved his young family down to Pinellas County, FL. Once he became involved in the HVAC Test and Balance industry, he moved his family to the Birmingham, AL area, later starting his own Test and Balance company. With his business, Eric travelled all over the world doing work for major corporations and the US government. Eric moved to Memphis, TN in the late 1980s, where he lived until January of 2020, when he moved to Lynn Haven, FL, following the death of his second wife.
During his life, Eric took up many different hobbies including fishing, hunting, parakeet raising and competition, rock hounding, jewelry making, photography, fly fishing, and orchid raising and competition, during which time he cultivated a new species of orchid which won awards in the Orchid Society.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Maximilian and Lena Hild Kuhnel; an infant son, Eric Brian "Ricky" Kuhnel; a grandson, Kenneth Banks Brazell; his sister, Gertrude "Trudy" Novenche; his second wife of 30 years, Susan Tucker Kuhnel; and his first wife of 31 years and mother of his children, Nancy Clemens Kuhnel.
Eric is survived by his five children, Debra Kuhnel Brazell of Woodstock, GA, Sandy Kuhnel Cook and her husband Ken of Jefferson, GA, Brenda Kuhnel Milburn of
Panama City, FL, Bruce Kuhnel and his wife Wendy of Lynn Haven, FL, and Brian Kuhnel and his wife, Amy of Woodstock, GA. In addition to his children, he is survived by nine grandchildren, Leila Cook of California, Eric Brazell and his wife, Rachael of Canton, GA, Nicholas Cook of
Panama City, FL, Brent Kuhnel and his wife Riana of Smyrna, GA, Alyssa Kuhnel of Glen Burnie, MD, Adam Kuhnel and his fiancée, Avery Warrick of Biloxi, MS, Clifford "Ford" Kuhnel of Belleville, IL, Cypress Kuhnel of Atlanta, GA, Jesslyn Kuhnel of Lynn Haven, FL, and one great-granddaughter, Emilia Brazell of Canton, GA, along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Eric Kuhnel will be held at a future date.
