Loving Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Grandfather and Friend to many passed on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Eric was born December 26, 1961 to William and Barbara Moats in Columbus, OH.
Eric was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University and obtained his Masters of Sports Science at the United States Sports Academy in Mobile, AL.
He was employed by Summa and became the first Certified Athletic Trainer at his alma mater, Revere High School, where he treated many athletes for 23 years. He then was an outstanding employee at Crystal Clinic Orthopedic Center.
Eric is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 41 years, Eileen, loving children, Jessica (Chris), Heidi (Aaron), David (Caleigh), 5 fabulous grandchildren, Liam, Charlotte, Evelyn, Lucas, and William Eric. His father, William and wife, Rosemary, mother in law, Mary Kay Walter, brother, Andy (Nancy), sister, Melissa (Dino), Eileen's siblings, Leo (Mary Ann), Ted (Barb), Frank (Michael), Sean (Theresa), and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Eric was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Moats and father in law, Leo Walter Jr.
A special thank you to all who helped inspire Eric's journey these last 2+ years. From the beginning Eric wanted to beat the odds and that he did!
Calling hours are Wednesday, October 8 from 5-8pm at the Hummel Funeral Homes Fairlawn located at 2800 West Market St. Fairlawn, OH 44333. The Funeral Mass will be at 10am Thursday, October 9 at St. Vincent de Paul Church located at 164 W Market St. Akron, OH 44303.
