Eric Smith (72), and fondly and lovingly known as, “Papa Z,” to his grandchildren, passed peacefully at home on February 5 with his family by his side.
He was born in Indianapolis, IN, the only son of the late Birthal Hugh Smith and Fanny Everits Smith, and youngest sibling to his three sisters.
He married Lisa J. Richardson of Lebanon, IN on September 23, 1978, and shared 45 years of marriage, creating a beyond blessed family of 3 children, 2 sons-in-laws, and seven grandchildren.
Eric was a 1971 graduate of Manual High School and a 1976 graduate of Ball State University, where he ran track, met Lisa, and from both schools met some of his dearest and life-long friends.
Eric loved sports, specifically the Pacers, Colts, Yankees, coaching his kids when they were young and seeing his grandkids following in his athletic footsteps.
He was a hard worker in life and career, but the one thing that mattered the most was his family. His dedication and love will forever be indelible.
Preceded in death are his father and mother, Birt and Fanny, and sister Sandra Palazzolo.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa, of 45 years; 3 children Erica (David) Bolin, Dustin Smith, Tara (John) Michels; sisters Alice Gunn and Ruthie O’Neil; seven grandchildren Brooklyn, Adalyn, and Aubrey Bolin, Luke, Mason, Reagan, and Hannah Michels; and 4 loving nieces, 7 nephews, and in laws.
His love and presence will deeply be missed.
