Eric Wetta Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on Jan. 9, 2026.
Eric Wayne Wetta was born on December 26, 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. He went to be with the Lord January 2, 2026.

Eric was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Billy and Della Wetta. He attended Alamo Heights ISD schools and graduated in 1983. Always busy, in high school he played in the band and ran track, and in his free time he worked at Baskin Robins to bring in a little extra money. Never one to sit still, Eric worked all over San Antonio, holding various positions until he discovered Security. Eric loved working in security and had a talent at it. Starting with his first assignment in December of 1983, he made it his career, continuing in various roles in that field until his passing.

Eric was a loving, carefree person and a friend to everyone he met. He had a charisma about him that made strangers almost instantly trust and like him. He was dedicated to his family. A loving son, devoted to his parents, he spent every day with them, taking them shopping or to the doctor when getting out was difficult for them. He was an amazing uncle and friend, always joking and being silly with his nephews before whisking them away on countless adventures around Texas and the surrounding states. He was also a good friend, always available for a chat, a meal, or a good time. He found delight in the a wide variety of things, including but not limited to his pets, b-movies, the show Beavis and Butthead, the leg lamp from Christmas Story, Cane's Chicken Fingers, and whatever else happened to catch his interest. He embraced life and leapt into every moment with unbridled passion. He never worried about the end, only concentrating on the now and how best he could spend it with his family and friends.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Della Wetta, his sister Zandra Wetta, his Aunt and Uncle Patricia and Wesley Moehring, his Aunt Leona Brooks, his Aunt Cathy, Grandparents Willie and Erna Wetta and Warren and Nellie Heath. He is survived by his sister, Heather Segrest (Nathan Segrest) of College Station, his nephews Xander, Benjamin, Louis, and George Segrest of College Station, TX, his uncle Gene Heath of Conroe, TX, his aunt Nellie and her husband Curtis Casburn of Katy, Texas, several cousins, and his best friend Chris Rowan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 6pm until 8pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 1pm at Mission Burial Park North Dominion Chambers Chapel, with a committal service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests sponsorship of senior cats or dogs or donations of food and blankets to local animal shelters in his name.
