On September 22, 2025, the soul of Eric Jermaine Wilcox, age 53, was called to his final eternal resting place. He was born February 18, 1972, to the late Rev. Edwin Levern and Melvin Louise Wilcox in Newark NJ. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Levy, Norris, and Wilys; two sisters: Ella Joanne Wilcox and Virginia Bryant. Eric started working at the age of 19 in the medical field at the Medical Examination Office, then at UF Health and finally for the past 15 years as a Floor Tech at Mayo Clinic, all here in Jacksonville.

Eric walked in his Christianity and selfless gratitude to everyone he met. It was not uncommon for him to visit friends, share prayers and encouragement during his shift.

His passions included grilling, cheering for the Cowboys, keeping the yard and all the cars spotless - he was highly organized and required that of his family. He also absolutely enjoyed singing and praising God. In general Eric loved the Lord, family, and life.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years Paula Black Wilcox; children: Subrina (AJ) Carter and Jordan Wilcox, both of Jacksonville; six grandchildren: Tristan Carter, Terrell Wilcox, Kadein Wilcox, Amiyah Wilcox, Aubrey Carter, and Austin Carter; four surviving brothers, Edwin L Jr. (Janice) of Ecuador South America, Dave (Tina), Danny (Corine) and Bobby (Mildred) Wilcox all of Jacksonville; two surviving sisters, Lenita Tatham and Melenease Wilcox of Jacksonville; The monarch of the family - Mrs. Mollie Grant; Special cousin, Jeffrey Brantley; two Goddaughters, Natalie Scott and Roneshia (Justin) Ingram-Smith (Atlanta, GA). Father-in-law, John W. Black; brother-in-law, John W. Black Jr.; two sister-in-law, Robin (deceased) (Eddie) Lockwood; Valerie (Lonnie) Johnson, Tina, and Angie Black, all of Jacksonville. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

It is with sadness that I must extend my condolences to Paula and the Wilcox family. Eric was loved and will be missed. Just remember, he is now at rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Cherish him memories and know that my family feels your hurt. My mother adopted your family when you lost your mother and mother-in-law. She is now gone, so Eric has joined them in heaven, his father, mother and our mother. What a day of rejoicing.

Love each one of you, the Smith family.
