Eric Wissinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sperling Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc. on Dec. 20, 2025.
Eric A. Wissinger passed away on December, 14, 2025, at UPMC Passavant surrounded by his family. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Dr. H. Andrew Wissinger and Marjorie F. Mitchell on January 31, 1967. Eric was a graduate of Shady Side Academy (1985) and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Roanoke College (1989). He was an avid golfer, hunter and played midfield on Shady Side's lacrosse team which he continued at Roanoke College through intramural games. Eric also helped recharter the Kappa Alpha Order (KA) chapter at Roanoke and served as the President.
Eric was an integral part of Pittsburgh's business community, beginning his career at Mark I. Wolk & Associates and then Arthur Anderson, refining his skills in valuation. He had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and spent much of his career developing and growing regional businesses through Commonwealth Capital Group. Additionally, he worked at Valuation Research, Strategic Advisors, First Commonwealth Bank and Wilke CPAs & Advisors in various valuation, advisory and investment banking roles. Eric also served on the Board of Directors for McKees Rocks Industrial Enterprises and the St. Margaret's Foundation and guest lectured for classes at Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business.
Above all, Eric was a devoted and proud father to his twin sons Gordon A. Wissinger and Andrew F. Wissinger. "Coach Wiss" passed on his love of lacrosse to his boys, including his leadership for the youth program PYLAX and continued coaching support at Fox Chapel High School. They loved spending quality time together such as weekend trips to their family farm in Armstrong County and the annual Labor Day Gettysburg camping trip. His ultimate focus was fostering and mentoring his sons' passions, aspirations and compassion for others, with many dinner table discussions affectionately called "hockey talk".
Jennifer (Smith) Schwartz and Eric were college sweethearts and parted ways in 1990. They reconnected the summer of 2022 in Stone Harbor, NJ with Jennifer relocating from Scottsdale to Pittsburgh in May 2025. They moved into a new home, celebrated Andrew and Sophie's Wedding and had their own intimate wedding in Stone Harbor on October 11, 2025 with immediate family. They enjoyed traveling to Houston, Austin, Sedona, Tucson, Chicago and month long stays in Stone Harbor with hopes to travel to Australia in 2026 and many more adventures together.
In addition to his sons and wife, Eric is survived by his step-mother Patricia Bik Wissinger, brother David F. Wissinger (Karen), niece Erica Wissinger, nephew John Wissinger (Michaela) and daughter-in-law Dr. Sophie A. Halpern. Eric is also survived by many cousins, a core group of dear friends and colleagues he impacted throughout his life.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life on Sunday, January 4th from 1:00-3:00 PM in Pittsburgh with location to be announced soon. Please RSVP to Jennifer, Gordon, Andrew, David, or Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in Eric's memory may be given to St. Margaret Foundation's Patient Crisis Care Endowment Fund at the url below.

To David,
We are very saddened hearing about your brothers loss.
GOD is the only one that gets me through your Mom´s loss.
As are HIS promises to us . . .
John 14:18
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Rely/trust that HE will help you through each day.
