In Loving Memory of Erich Klaus Paul

March 27, 1938 – August 1, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Erich Klaus Paul on August 1, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on March 27, 1938, in Mannheim, Germany to Karl Josef Paul and Luise Augustine Paul. He worked as a Fabrication Supervisor at Commercial Tube Processing and took great pride in his career.

Erich brought his great love of soccer with him from Germany to the United States in 1954 at 16 years old. While living in Peoria, Illinois helped form The Peoria Soccer Club at Hickory Grove which is still being played at today. Erich also thoroughly enjoyed bowling, golf, yardwork, weekly breakfast meetups, and time spent at the American Legion/VFW with friends creating many laughs and cherished memories. He also especially looked forward to annual fishing trips to Star Lake in Minnesota that he took for over 30 years with friends and family.

Erich is survived by his children: Debbie Lynn Edwards, Erich Allen Paul, and Thomas Allan Paul; daughter-in-law Angela Marie Paul; former son-in-law Doug Edwards; grandchildren: Doug Edwards, Brandon Edwards, Brittany Musselman, Zac Edwards, Grace Paul, Zachary Paul, and Jayce McDowall; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bernice Arlene Paul, daughter Anna Christine Paul, infant son Michael Paul, and former wife Frances Paul, mother of Debbie and Erich.

There are people who leave footprints on your heart, and my Uncle Erich was one of them. He wasn´t just my favorite uncle-he was a radiant presence in my life, a source of joy, love, and laughter.

As a child, I spent several summers with him and Aunt Bernie, and those memories remain etched in my heart forever. They welcomed me into their home and into their family vacations, where I felt not just included, but cherished. Those days were filled with warmth, adventure, and the kind of laughter that stays with you forever.

My Uncle Erich had a charisma that lit up every room. He was witty and fun. His cheerfulness was infectious, and his phone calls were always a highlight-no matter what was going on, he had a way of lifting my spirits and making me laugh. Even as I grew older, our connection remained strong, and I treasured every conversation we shared.

His passing leaves a space in my heart that cannot be filled, but I carry his love and light with me. I will miss him dearly-his voice, his humor, his heart-but I find comfort in knowing that he´s reunited with the rest of our beloved family who have crossed over. One day, we´ll all be together again.

Until then, I honor him by remembering the joy he brought into my life and the love he gave so freely. Thank you, Uncle Erich, for being exactly who you were. Love and miss you.

Erich has been such a great friend to Larry and me. I think he would have done anything for us. He continued picking Larry up every Wednesday morning for breakfast after Larry could not drive. He will really be missed. Prayers for his family.
