Erik B. Block, age 27, of Hugo, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. His mom held him as he entered this world, and she was lovingly by his side as he took his last breath—a full circle of love that defined his life.
Erik was born on August 25, 1998, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Melissa Johnstone and Nick Block. He grew up in the Forest Lake area and attended Forest Lake High School and Chisago Lakes High School, where he made lifelong friends and unforgettable memories. With a strong work ethic and a willingness to get his hands dirty, Erik built his career in the construction industry, specializing in concrete work—labor that matched his steady determination and quiet pride.
In 2023, through a circle of mutual friends, Erik met the love of his life, Kylie Ness. Their connection was instant, joyful, and real. Together they welcomed their greatest blessing, their daughter, Sophia, on October 21, 2025. Becoming a father changed Erik in the most beautiful ways. Sophia was his pride, his joy, and his purpose. He loved her with his whole heart, and everyone around him could see it.
Erik lived his life with a vibrant spirit and a kind of energy that drew people in. He adored snowboarding, embraced late-night gaming on his PS5 with his buddies, and found happiness simply being surrounded by the people he loved most—his family, his friends, and his “posse.” Naturally funny, a little sarcastic, and confidently outgoing, Erik had a protective heart and a deep devotion to “his people.” When he loved someone, he loved them fiercely.
In the months before his passing, Erik experienced a profound spiritual renewal. He gave his life to Christ and found peace and purpose attending Revive Church, where he was growing in his faith and embracing the hope that comes from it.
Erik is preceded in death by his great-grandma, Marion Erb; grandparents, Sharon and Cuckoos James; his dad, Nick Block; and cousin, Cole Letexier.
He will forever be loved and deeply missed by his mom, Melissa (Nicholas) Jones; his girlfriend, Kylie Ness; his beloved daughter, Sophia Block; grandparents, Donna (Luke Hoch) Johnstone and Ronald (Billie) Johnstone; siblings, Forrest Ravinski, Raya Bennett, Hannah Jones, Nicholas Jones, and Kyle Summers; niece, Sylvia Ravinski; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and “The Fam”—his chosen family.
A funeral service honoring Erik’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Crossroads Church, 17445 Notre Dame Street NE, Columbus, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Refreshments will follow as loved ones gather to remember, celebrate, and reflect on the life of a young man who loved deeply and lived fully. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
Erik’s legacy lives on in every life he touched—especially in his precious daughter, Sophia. May his memory be a blessing, and may those who loved him find comfort in knowing that his heart was full, his faith renewed, and his love everlasting.
