OBITUARY – Erik Brian Scott
Erik Brian Scott, born on August 8, 1949, died on Saturday, November 23 rd at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta,
Georgia. Erik was 75 years of age. His loving wife, beloved brother and sister were blessed to be at his bedside
when he was called home.
The eldest of three children of the late Hartwell B. Scott and the late Evelyn Viley Scott, Erik was raised in Chicago,
IL. He was a loving big brother to sister, Evelyn "Angie" Woods and brother, Bernard "Bernie" Scott, and was the
Athos of these "Three Musketeers" throughout childhood and into their adult lives.
Erik attended Kozminski Elementary School and Hyde Park High School, graduating high school in 1967. He came of
age in a volatile era, and identified with revolutionaries whose missions aligned with the mission Erik claimed for
his own life's work: to awaken people to Truth, and make the world a better place by uplifting people and
advocating for the underserved.
In his young career, Erik landed various "gigs" in the City, and later pursued higher education. His mentors and
advocates encouraged him to attend college in New England. He graduated from Northeastern University in
Boston, Massachusetts with a BS degree in Business Marketing and emerged driven to give back to his community
to advocate for others.
Hearing about the city that had been described as The Black Mecca, Erik became curious about Atlanta and
decided to relocate there in search of his future which he found in the politics and "peaches". He wanted to make
a mark in community service and explored ways to do that working with the Jackson mayoral campaign.
Erik's expertise was in sales, marketing, and project management. He was a trusted consultant because he knew
what he knew, was firm in his beliefs and never hesitant to share what he thought. His resume names top
companies and city government – The Hartford, Empire Distributors, ADT, America's Home Place Builders, City of
Atlanta Cultural Affairs. He took great pride in his association with Rowe Productions where he managed concerts
with R&B stars like The Jackson Five, The O'Jays, Ohio Players.
Erik made another match for his talents and convictions in retirement, when his mission aligned with that of the
Georgia Micro Enterprise Network (GMEN). He was energized in the organization's grassroots efforts to empower
small businesses through training, mentorship and access to funding. As founder of the GMEN/MEN Project, his
brainchild and passion, Erik was a catalyst for new business and successful careers all over Georgia.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sybil Bernadette Young Scott; his sister, Evelyn Angelique Scott Woods (Charles
Branham); brother, Hartwell Bernard Scott, Jr.; cousins, Stephanie Daugherty, Cheron Mims; sister-in-law, Angela
Young Jones (Marion); brothers-in-law Harding Young (Kim), Gregory Young (Vernetta); nieces Camille Offord
(Herbert), Lauren Jones, Marlena Young, Hailey Young; nephews, Damien Woods (Sara), Julian Scott (Kenyatta),
Stephen Jones, John Young (Kirsten), Matthew Young; and a host of relatives and friends who will cherish his
memory, his spirit, his advocacy for the greater good, and his love for all of us.
The funeral Mass will be held at St Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 551 Harwell Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 on
December 5, 2024 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to GMEN MEN,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Erik Brian Scott, a passionate advocate for entrepreneurship and a steadfast leader in GMEN´s Men´s Program. Erik´s dedication to empowering men to excel in business and leadership was matched only by his integrity, compassion, and tireless commitment to his community. He was a beacon of inspiration, embodying resilience, vision, and the heart of a true servant leader. His contributions to GMEN and the lives he touched will forever be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this time of profound loss. May his legacy continue to inspire and uplift for generations to come.
