Mother Susie Mae Jones-Scott, 98, of Jesup, Ga. passed away on July 5, 2025 following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 21, 1926 to the late, Charlie Jones and Susie Mae McBride-Jones in Millen, Ga. Mother Susie was the eldest members of her home church, New Hope Freewill Baptist Church where she served as the Church Mother, a Deaconess, on the Usher's Union, Prayer Band and as a Sunday School Teacher. She was employed at several places in town such as Bowen Dry Cleaners and the Manhattan Shirt Factory. However, she was most known for being "The Goat" of Homemakers. She was an excellent cook, and her children and grandchildren could very well attest to that if by chance you needed to fact check that she was. Mother Scott was a soft spoken, kind and loving individual that will forever resonate in our hearts and mind. She was faithful in every aspect of the word. Whatever she did, she did so with a strong determination and will to be the best.and she was. She was a loving wife of her late husband, Deacon Floyd Scott, the best Mother anyone could ask for, a grandmother that knew exactly what to do to mend whatever was broken for her grandchildren and a loving sister to her siblings. When Mother Scott wasn't enthralled with the day-to-day chores, she thoroughly enjoyed cooking which always seemed to bring her family together.
She was preceded in death by both parents, Charlie and Susie Mae Jones, her husband, Deacon Floyd Scott, her sisters, Sweeney Jones, Ella Childs, Martha Jackson and Nettie Houston; her brothers, James Willie, Charlie, Cleveland, Jessie and Tony Jones and certainly not to exclude her newborn baby, Flora Mae Scott.
Those left to cherish her memories: her children, Henry L. Scott III, Jesup, Ga., Mattie Susie Gray, Naylor, Ga., Willie F. Scott (Linda), Inverness, Miss., Kirk E. L. Scott (Cynthia), Richmond Hill, Ga. and Dabronda Cooper (Ben, Jr.), Jesup, Ga.; (15) grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great greatgrandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of sisters and brothers-in-laws who will miss her dearly.
There will be a wake/visitation held on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 5-7 pm at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, July 12, 2025 @ 11:00 am at St. John First Born Holiness Church, 386 W. Poplar Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545.
