Erin Stastny Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 10, 2025.
Erin Kathleen Stastny (December 28, 1968-September 7, 2025) It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Erin (Welch) Stastny-the absolute best daughter, sister, wife, mother, colleague, and friend. Erin was born on December 28, 1968, in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University, where she met and married her incredible husband of 33 years, Steve Stastny. Together, they raised three amazing children: Nick, Elise, and Claire-filling their home with family, friends, laughter, (lots of karaoke), and love. In addition to her husband and children, she will be greatly missed by her parents, Constance McDermott and Jerry (Nan) Welch; parents-in-law, Dale and Mary Stastny; sisters, Molly (Steve) Pigneri, Megan (Dan) Hower, and Kate (Eric) Carr; sisters-in-law, Kris Olson and Kathy Stastny; daughter-in-law, Ellyn Stastny; and 11 nieces and nephews. Erin was a well-respected and dedicated stock trader, known not only for her sharp instincts and professionalism but also for the incredible warmth and light she brought to every person she met. Her quick wit, legendary pranks, and wicked sense of humor made even the most stressful days brighter-her ability to make others laugh was truly one of her greatest gifts. Erin will also be remembered for her remarkable strength, spark, kindness, beauty, and the unwavering love she had for her family. She had a true zest for life-always ready for a new project or adventure-while finding joy in life's simplest pleasures, like catching frogs and toads in Iowa or soaking up the sunshine on her back patio. She had a deep and abiding faith, and her church community was an important part of her life, especially during her courageous 9.5-year battle with colon cancer. She found strength, joy, and fellowship through her involvement with St Thomas the Apostle Church. Singing alongside her fellow choir members brought her immense peace and happiness, and she cherished the friendships she formed there. Erin leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and integrity. While her physical absence leaves an unfathomable void, her infectious spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 19th at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle, 2914 W 44th St., Minneapolis. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Thomas the Apostle or the Animal Humane Society, two places Erin frequented often and loved dearly. Rest in peace, our sweet and beautiful Erin. You will be missed more than words can ever express, but we know you're now singing and dancing with the angels who welcomed you home.
