Ernest Gene Burns, known lovingly to his family and friends as "Nunu," passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, in Cisco, Texas. He was born on June 15, 1938, in Gorman, Texas, to William Marshall and Myrtle (Weaver) Burns. Gene grew up in Comanche County, a place that fostered his hardworking spirit and deep family values.

On June 17, 1959, Gene married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" Lorea Fisher, in Gustine, Texas. Together, they built a loving family that became the foundation of his joy and fulfillment. Gene leaves behind his devoted wife Patricia, his daughter Lyn Annette Mercer, and grandchildren Misty Gail Lego and husband, Charlie and Robert Gene Mercer and wife, Rasha; great-grandchildren, Harper Grace, Hadley Gail and Barrett Seth Mercer who cherished every moment spent with their beloved Nunu. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Maxine Burns and great grand-dogs, Carson and Hershey and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene's professional life was devoted to serving as a courier for First Financial Bank, where he worked diligently. Outside of work, he found immense pleasure in tending to his yard, embracing the call of the outdoors with a passion for hunting, and unwinding while watching his favorite sports teams: the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Longhorns. He had a special fondness for Westerns on television.

A committed member of the First Christian Church of Eastland, Gene's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both joyous and challenging times. As a family man, he will be remembered for the love he had for his grandchildren, delighting in reading to them and sharing stories that will forever echo in their hearts.
