Ernest H. "Joe" Butterfield

Ernest H. "Joe" Butterfield, 73, of Derry, NH, died Friday, November 17, 2023, in Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. He was born on February 28, 1950, in Derry, a son of the late Ernest and E. Catherine (Picard) Butterfield and had been a resident of Derry for all of his life. Being born with cerebral palsy, Joe faced many challenges throughout his life. At a young age, Joe became a resident at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center until adulthood and adult day programs for many years, most recently Gateways adult day services but for most of his life he was cared for at home by a loving family. He faced life with determination and a beautiful smile everyone who met Joe would comment on "That Smile ".
He is survived by his four sisters, Ernestine Moore of Manchester, NH, Nancy Butterfield, and Gloria Scott both of Derry, and Valary Carr of Brookfield, VT; as well as many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at 1:30pm in the Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Road, Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Cerebral Palsy, 8401 Old Courthouse Road, Vienna, VA 22182 or at https://ucp.org/
