Ernest (Ernie) Leroy Fox, Jr. of Indianapolis left this earthly realm on February 9th, 2023.  It was a Thursday morning at 8:26 a.m. that he returned to his Heavenly Home. Ernie was 81 years old.  He would have been 82 on March 21st of this year.  He had been in the hospital from a fall on January 27th.  He was doing well initially, then worse, then better.  The nurses had just taken his vitals and everything looked good.  Five minutes later his heart stopped.  We think he was just tired and ready to go home to his Heavenly Father.  We find comfort in knowing that he is at rest now, and experiencing a peace beyond all understanding.

Ernie enlisted to serve in the Army when he was 18 years old and spent the next 20 years traveling the world with his wife and children.  He served in Vietnam and also spent time in Korea.  He retired from the Army in 1979 and moved his family to the east side of Indianapolis.  He worked for General Electric for about seven years, before going on to the Post Office where he worked for over 20 years before he retired.

Ernie loved to fish and camp, and passed that on to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He collected stamps since he was a boy and had other hobbies as well, but mostly he just loved to spend time with the love of his life, Susie, and his children.  He was a protector, provider, and fighter in everything he did.  His most notable trait, besides being stubborn, was speaking exactly what was on his mind.  We respected him for that because we always knew where we stood.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Susie (Carr) Fox; his children Mark Allen Fox (daughter-in-law Connie Sue Fox), Susan Ruth Fox, and Daniel Joseph Fox; his grandchildren Shane Fox, Emily Keener, and Lindsay Marie Litteral; great grandchildren Ethan Keener, Aaron Keener, Kelsie Keener, Justin Keener, Natalie Keener, and Xavien Litteral; his sister Katherine Carr.

Ernie is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Leroy Fox; his mother, Katherine Myers; his brother Dennis Fox and sisters Rosie McEvoy and Mary Jones; his grandchildren Kelsie and Michael Litteral-Fox, and Nathan May.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the national Alzheimer's Association in hopes of finding a cure for the disease that his beloved wife Susie lives with.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 10AM-2PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E Washington St.  A funeral service will begin at 2PM. Ernie will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
