Ernest Arden Grotte, Age 94, sadly passed away on 12/18/2023 at Luther Memorial in Mayville, ND. “Ernie” was a wonderful person who was ready to help anyone in need. His storytelling was unmatched. Ernie was a master repairman and loved to tinker in his shop.
Ernie was born February 6, 1929 in Pickert, ND to Swen and Annie. He married Sylvia Walen in 1949. They had two children, Karen and Gary. He later married Marlys Sjoberg in 1978. Ernie retired from farming in 1993. In retirement he spent his winters in Mesa, AZ until moving back to Mayville, ND full-time in 2020.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Marlys, stepson Mark (Brenda) Sjoberg, brothers Walter (Donna) and Jon (Helen) and sisters Jean Carlson and Fern (Tom) Hansen. Ernie took great pleasure in his eight grandchildren, Alicia, Rachael, Adrian, Scott, Kristi, Sam, Ben and Jack. He was blessed with nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, children Gary and Karen, stepson Mike, siblings Jennings, Stanley, Marvin and Edna.
At Ernest’s request there will be a burial service held at a later date.
