Marlys Ione Grotte

  Marlys Ione Grotte, Age 91, passed away on December 25, 2023 at Luther Memorial in Mayville, ND.  Marlys was a great cook and a hard worker.  She was known for her excellent krumkake, rosettes and apple pie.  She loved mowing the yard and took pride in her flowers.

   Marlys was born on July 17, 1932 in Hillsboro, ND to Carl and Edna Nelson.  She married Earl Sjoberg in 1957 with whom she had two children, Mike and Mark.  She married Ernest Grotte in 1978.  They lived on their farm near Pickert, ND, retiring in 1993.   Winters were spent in Mesa, AZ before moving to Mayville, ND in 2020.

   Marlys is survived by her son: Mark (Brenda); sister-in-law: Donna Nelson; and eight grandchildren: Alicia, Rachael, Adrian, Scott, Kristi, Sam, Ben and Jack.  She had nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

   Marlys was preceded in death by her husband: Ernest; her parents; son: Mike; stepson: Gary; stepdaughter: Karen; siblings: Geraldine, Monroe, Kenton, Duane and Charles.

  At Marlys’ request there will be a burial service at a later date.
