Ernest F Jones

Reverend Ernest Francis Jones passed away on August 13, 2025 in Orange Park. He was born in St. Augustine and resided here over 70 years. He joined the Marine Corps in 1946, was honorably discharged in 1949, and returned to St. Augustine. He joined the Assembly of God in 1951 and began a three fold ministry that continued for 27 years. In the early 1980s he joined the Church of God in Cleveland, TN and continued his ministry as a teacher (43 years), worship leader (40 years), and treasurer (37 years). Rev. Jones served as president of Evelyn Hamblen PTA for two consecutive years. He was the first father to serve as president in 35 years. He was also the first president of Murray Seventh Grade Center PTO. Rev. Jones was employed by Flagler College in 1967. He was one of the first to serve on the administrative staff for 24 years. Rev Jones was a member of the Gideons for 20 years, and served as chaplain and president, three years for each office. He retired in 1992 and dedicated his remaining years to the service of God. In 1995, at age 65, he received credentials to minister in the Church of God. Rev Jones is survived his wife, the former Martha Lavine McClellan. He is also survived by his son, Everett and a daughter, Stephanie Barber. Rev. Jones is also survived by six grandchildren, Sarah Elise Zobian, Hannah Marie Karably, Lauren Elizabeth Barber, Austin Michael Barber, Phillip Simeon Sanchez Jones and Quinton Michael Sanchez Jones; great-grandchildren, Genevieve Haylyn Carle, and Aria Rose Mirza; He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Hazel A. Jones, and a sister, LaVerne Jones. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday August 21, 2025 at the Pentecostal Fellowship Center Church, 1065 Kings Estate Road, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Interment with Marine Corps honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will take place 5-7 p.m. Wednesday August 20, 2025, also at the Pentecostal Fellowship Center Church. The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions in Rev. Jones' memory be made to the Pentecostal Fellowship Center Church. Rev. Jones' greatest joy will be to hear Jesus say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Arrangements are under the care of St. Johns Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
