Ernest F. Lake, a cherished and dedicated member of his community, passed away on March 11, 2025, in Nederland, Texas, at the age of 86. Born on June 21, 1938, in Port Arthur, Texas, Ernest led a life marked by service, commitment, and a deep love for family.
Before becoming a self-employed cab owner-operator, Ernest exemplified hard work and determination as a truck driver. His dedication to his career mirrored his devotion to his family and friends, where he was known for being very social and for his love of coffee. Sundays were revered as family time, a testament to his belief in the importance of togetherness and shared moments.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Ernest proudly served in the Air Force, a commitment that underlined his character and service to his country. His personality shone brightly, characterized by his eagerness to help others. This quality endeared him to many, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
Ernest is survived by his beloved daughters: Sharon Kasper and her husband Michael, Cathy Hardin, Christina Bergeron and her husband Charles, Rita Iles, Raquel Garcia, and Lara Comeaux and her husband John. He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey Lake and his wife Sara, his sister, Jenny Lou Jackson and her husband Terry, and a remarkable legacy of 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 55 years, Theresa Lake, whose love and partnership were pivotal in his life, his parents, Fraser and Katherine Lake, and his sons, Ricky Bertrand and Steven Lake, as well as his daughter, Debbie Bertrand and brother, James Lake.
The community is invited to gather in remembrance of Ernest during visitation and funeral services. Visitation will take place on March 15, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, TX 77627, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM at the same location. A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens in Nederland following the funeral service.
Ernest F. Lake leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering support for his family, and his spirit will continue to resonate in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
