Ernest Rogers

Ernest Rogers, Jr., 81, of Canton, passed away on December 8, 2025, at Maggie Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Ernest was born on November 12, 1944, in Canton, to the late Ernest and Annabell Messer Rogers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 52 years, Freida Gentry Rogers, who passed on May 7, 2018.
Ernest was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, and was happiest when outside with nature, especially at the beach and lake. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing in his native mountains. Ernest devoted twenty-eight years to Dayco where he mainly worked on timing belts. Home life was also very important to Ernest; he cherished time spent with family and sitting on his front porch. Eating good food was a favorite pastime, especially when it was Freida's home cooking. Going to local yard sales with his late wife was always a highlight for him as well. Ernest was strong in his faith and loved attending Church of God of Prophecy of Gibson Town when he was able. He loved singing gospel songs and praising the
Lord.
Ernest is survived by a daughter, Tammy Green and her husband, Keith, of Clyde; a son, Tim Rogers and his wife, Traci, of Canton; a brother, Earl Rogers, of Waynesville; a sister, Linda Oliver, Canton; three grandchildren, Brooke Mathis (Drew), Savannah Whitted (Colten), and Seth Green; two great-grandchildren, Brinley and Baylee Mathis; his best friend and "porch buddy", Lee Gaddis; and numerous extended family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the chapel of Smoky Mountain Cremations & Funeral Service with Pastor Lee Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
