Pansy Loretha Shuler, a lifelong resident of Western North Carolina, went to her eternal home on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on January 22, 1939, in Jackson County, North Carolina, Pansy lived a life rooted in faith, family, and the mountains she loved so dearly. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, David Manuel Shuler, as well as many of her brothers and sisters.
Though small in stature, Pansy was a giant in heart, compassion, and quiet strength. She was the matriarch of her family-steady, loving, and unwavering-whose presence brought comfort and unity to all who knew her.
Pansy leaves behind a legacy carried forward by her three sons: Mike Shuler (Susan late wife), Jon Shuler, and Wally Shuler (Kim). She was a proud grandmother to Jenna Shuler, Michael Shuler (Victoria), Josh Shuler, Miranda Hopper (Frank), Elaina Shuler, Addie Shuler, and Macy Shuler. Her joy only grew with the arrival of her great grandchildren: Hunter Hopper, Kinsley Hopper, Hayley Hopper, and Mia Shuler.
Her family will remember her as a woman of deep kindness, gentle humor, and steadfast love-someone who listened intently and always made room for one more at the table. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled and the memories she created.
A service to honor and celebrate Pansy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Sugar Creek Baptist Church, located at 40 Sugar Creek Road, Cullowhee, NC 28723. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Caney Fork Cemetery.
Pansy's life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will endure for generations.
