I really didn't know Ernest but I know his brother, Sandy, and what the latter wrote about the former sounds just like my friend, Sandy, to me!

We met Ernie during the Diamond Jubilee and he immediately had me involved in several aspects of that celebration. Ernie was Delray's biggest cheerleader and always worked for only the best for his hometown, definitely influencing our own love for our Village by the Sea. He was a kind gentleman we admired. What a wonderful man and mentor Ernie was to so many people. I'm so glad to have had him as a friend and counsel over the years. When our middle daughter Jamie (at age 8) and Ernie were cast in the Music Man at the Delray Beach Playhouse his caring and concern for her was on full display. She holds those memories dear even today.
To the entire Simon family, thanks for sharing Ernie with us all. We are better people for it and Delray is a better place for it.

An icon in Delray Beach. So thankful you were there for the Plum family at my Dad's service last year. A great friend to our family and thankful for your many years of service to the community. RIP Ernie.

Ernest G. Simon played a significant roll in so many aspects of the development and growth of Delray Beach, it is hard to point to one over-arching thing that best speaks to his impact on the community. He was woven into the fabric of the "Village by the Sea" in such a way that his quiet hand could be felt on your efforts and desires to make "Delray a better place". If you needed "wise counsel" on a project or program, he was a ways available (and willing) to share his perspective with candor and tenderness which were exceptionally helpful. I always felt that Ernie was looking out for what was best for our community and those who were a part of it. He had a humbleness that few could miss, honesty that all could appreciate, and a vision for Delray Beach that has served us well....
