Ernest E Slusher

Ernest "Ernie" Slusher, 85, passed peacefully at home with his family on January 30, 2025. Ernie was born to Ed Slusher and Vernia Brown on November 14, 1939, in Salyersville, KY.
Ernie graduated from Royerton High School in 1958. During his high school career, Ernie played basketball, football, and baseball. Ernie married his high school sweetheart Rebecca "Becky" Waldo on May 9, 1959.
Ernie worked at General Motors in Muncie, IN from 1961 until 1993 and retired at 53 years old, having worked there for 32 years. After retirement Ernie and Becky moved to Lake Wales, Florida and spent the days fishing, and being on the lake in his boat, as it was his favorite place to be.
Ernie leaves behind his son Jeff Slusher (Kara); daughter Donna McCown; sisters Lillie King, Linda Shoemaker (Larry); sister-in-law Barbara Slusher; grandchildren Erica Ruegg (Ben), Erin Slusher, Jordan Slusher (Ben), Michael McCown; great-grandchildren Haley, Patrick, Natalie, Waylon, Oliver, and James.
Ernie was preceded in death by his loving wife Becky; granddaughter Jessica McCown; brother John R. Slusher, mother Vernia Brown and Father Ed Slusher. Ernie's family would like to extend special thanks to all the families at Grape Hammock Park for their friendship and support to Ernie throughout the years.
Funeral services will be conducted at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Friends and family may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery immediately following funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, Ernie's family requests donations be made to the Shady Hammock Baptist Church located at 1155 Shady Oaks Drive, Lake Wales, FL 33898
