Ernest Eugene, son to William Allen Smith and Irene Buchanan Smith, began his earthly journey on Wednesday, November 30, 1938 in Nashville, Tennessee. His parents; son, Ricky and sister, Kathleen preceded him in death.

He attended public school in Nashville, TN. “Gene” as he was affectionately called by family, worked as a big wheel truck driver from the age of 16 or 17until his health declined, forcing his retirement in 2018. Throughout his lifetime, he also worked in the Rainbow Tile Factory.

Gene loved spending time with his family and enjoyed all the fun times they were together. He had a passion for motorcycles. All who knew and love him will sorely miss his presence and smiling face.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025 Ernest transitioned peacefully at Northcrest Hospital in Springfield, TN from this earthly life to his heavenly home.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Rosalyn Smith; children: Vicky (Darryl) Jones, Ernest (Pam) Smith, Sonya Smith and Valerie McClinton; sisters: Patricia (Cecil) Stewart, Juanita Howard Sherry (Carrol) Little, Janice, Marion, Sharon, Jessie Smith, Ann Smith; brothers: Charles Boyd, William Lillard, Justin Smith, Michael Smith; bonus sisters: Barbara Murrell, Pat Jackson and Barbara Hubbard; devoted sisters-in-law: Demetria Jones, Tamika Lea, Monrica Lea, Monisa (Kevin) Grant; devoted father-in-law, Reginald (June) Johnson and a host of other relatives and friends.
