Ernest Edwin “Eddie” Thomas passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at Country Lane Gardens in Thornville, Ohio.
Born on April 19, 1947, Eddie’s life was marked by dignity, kindness, and a deep commitment to those around him. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, as he touched many lives throughout his life.
He is survived by his brother, Wayne (Gayle) Thomas of Lancaster, Ohio; his sister, Linda J. Thomas Clemenson (Larry Clemenson) of Lancaster, Ohio; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Ernest E. Thomas and Juanita I. (Griffith) Thomas and his brother David E. Thomas.
Eddie had a deep love for Jesus, his family, and his friends. He was also a devoted Ohio State fan and could always be heard enthusiastically cheering, “Go Bucks!” during games.
Eddie had a special gift for art. Despite losing his hearing at an early age, he developed an incredible ability to look at a small picture and recreate it as a detailed 8x10 drawing. He enjoyed drawing, painting, especially with Artex paints, and generously donated many Christian-themed artworks to his church in his younger years. He also loved adult coloring books and crossword puzzles.
Eddie also enjoyed watching old TV westerns and musicals from the 50s, 60s and 70s. He knew them so well that he could recite the names of actors and actresses from memory. One of his favorite shows was “The Beverly Hillbillies”.
Eddie never knew a stranger, if you met him, you loved him. Even in his short time at Country Lane Gardens, the staff shared how deeply he was loved. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff for the care and compassion they showed Eddie. He was surrounded with kindness and passed peacefully.
Eddie and his family began attending First Church of God in Lancaster, Ohio, just before his birth in 1947. He remained a faithful member throughout his life, attending as long as he was physically able. He especially cherished attending the Christmas Eve service last year.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Eddie at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
A final farewell will take place at Forest Rose Cemetery, 1238 North Columbus Street, Lancaster, Ohio, immediately following the service.
A luncheon will be held at the First Church of God Fellowship Hall, 732 East Sixth Street, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 following burial service.
Eddie’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who cherished him. He will always be remembered as a man who truly loved people.
Eddie will forever remain in our hearts and minds.
