DEACONESS ERNESTINE FIELDS COPELAND, affectionately known as "Tine", was born to the late Fred Fields, Sr. and Rebecca Davis Fields on August 10, 1956, in Halifax County, North Carolina. She answered the Master's call to eternal rest and peace on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at East Carolina University Medical Center, Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.
As a child, "Tine" professed faith in Jesus Christ, became a member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in
Littleton, North Carolina, and remained a dedicated member her entire life. She sang in the Gospel Choir, served as a Youth Advisor, performed her duties as a Deaconess, and was instrumental in the formation of the Youth Praise Dance Ministry.
Growing up, "Tine" and her siblings worked with their parents on the farm, which did not allow them to attend school regularly. She quickly learned the importance of having a good work ethic, setting goals, and working to accomplish them. After successfully obtaining her GED, "Tine" continued her education at Halifax Community College in
Weldon, North Carolina, and received her Associate degree. For many years, she was employed at the former J.P. Stevens and Company in
Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and later at Cochrane Furniture Company in
Warrenton, North Carolina, where she formed many lasting friendships.
In 1992, "Tine" was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert A. Copeland. They established a home in
Littleton, North Carolina, and have shared many wonderful years together.
"Tine" was a woman of many talents, very creative, always willing to try new things, and was never one to sit idle. She taught herself to sew even before taking classes, learned to play the piano, and became an amateur videographer which gave her the confidence to make videos and CDs for church services and family events. She was recognized as the 2015-2016 "DAME of The Year" by the American Legion Post 425 in
Littleton, North Carolina.
"Tine" was most happy when being with family and friends and would never miss an opportunity to spend time with them. Helping others always brought her great joy, and she faithfully provided home health care and transportation whenever someone needed it. She was always ready and excited to "Hit the Road" to visit loved ones, travel to familiar sights, and to also experience new adventures.
In addition to her parents, "Tine" was predeceased by four siblings: Willie, Emma Dean, Fred "Supa", and James "JP"; two sisters-in-law, Julia and Octavia; and two brothers-in-law, Clarence and Warren.
"Tine's" radiant smile, humorous personality, and generous spirit will be forever cherished by her dedicated and faithful husband, Robert "Bob" Copeland of the home; her loving son, Calvin "Boo" Fields (Kim) of
Littleton, NC; her grandchildren and the "Apples of Her Eye", Destiny Boyd, Cavone Fields, Calyse Fields, and Devon Fields; her adorable great-grandchildren, Kai Sidbury, Kaysin Fields, and Milani Alston; her precious goddaughter, Asiah Joyner; her supportive sisters, Lizzie and Lilly Fields of
Littleton, NC, her caring brothers, Charlie, John, and Oswell (Daisy) Fields all of
Littleton, NC; her sisters-in-law, Tempie and Clara Copeland, and Eva Boone (Eakie) all of
Littleton, NC, Wanda Williams (Roderick) of
Durham, NC, and Kelly Harris (Landis) of Smithfield, VA; her brothers-in-law, Raymond Copeland of
Littleton, NC, and Earl King of Temple Hills, MD; multiple generations of nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of other extended family members, and her devoted church family who will all greatly miss her earthly presence.
