Erskine Anthony Wood, age 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at his home in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Cordele, Georgia, on April 9, 1950, to Frederick Sr. and Mattie Lou (Anderson) Wood, Erskine moved to Tennessee in 1970, where he built a life marked by dedication, kindness, and strong family values. Known for his unwavering spirit of compassion, patience, and generosity,

Erskine was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He devoted many years as a machinist at the K-25 and Y-12 Weapons Complex before transitioning to construction work, where he applied his hands-on skills with pride-often helping with home projects and community efforts. Erskine was deeply involved in the Oak Ridge community, volunteering with the Jaycees and sharing his love for cooking at events, holidays, and family gatherings.

Erskine is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mell-vinnie Wood; his sons, Myron "Tony" Wood and Steven Wood (Fatma Gobel);his sister. Lynn Hughes (John); his grandsons, Matthew Wood, Marcus Wood, granddaughters Devyn Ward, Mahliya Wood, and Cora Wood; and his great-granddaughter, Kynseli Wood.

Erskine will be missed by a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Lou and Frederick Wood, and his brothers Howard, Frederick Jr., and Cedric Wood.

A proud and supportive father, grandfather, uncle and brother, Erskine embraced family life with joy and patience, always ready to share smiles and playful moments with his grandchildren. His legacy of integrity, devotion, and love will continue to inspire his family and community for generations to come. The family gratefully thanks all who supported Erskine through his illness with prayers, visits, and kindness.
