Ervin Chambliss Obituary
CLIFTON PARK - Ervin "Coach" Chambliss, 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home, in Clifton Park, on February 10, 2026.
Born in Tuskegee, Ala., in 1953, Erv was a son of Irene (Chambliss) Hall and the late Clemon Clinton Lampkin Jr. His family moved to Hornell, N.Y., in his youth, and following his graduation from Hornell High School and the University of Rochester, he earned his Masters Degree from SUNY Albany. In 1986, Ervin married the love of his life, Sharon Dunlop, and they began their life together.
Ervin is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon Dunlop Chambliss; their two children, Nicole Chambliss and Jason (partner, Elisabeth) Chambliss; and his siblings, Lois Dunn, Barry Young, Laurie Hall-Murphy, Johnny Hall Jr., Thomas Hall, Lisa Stewart, Renee Stewart, and Kimberly Stewart. His greatest pride and deepest joy were found in his family.
He loved the arts, music and would often be found singing karaoke with a smile and voice that filled the room. But coaching was his life passion. For 40 years, he devoted himself to mentoring and leading young athletes, coaching a myriad of sports ranging from basketball and lacrosse to, most notably, football.
He shared his knowledge and devotion to the game at Liverpool High School, SUNY Albany, Williams College, the University of Rochester, Columbia University and Union College. At every school, he shaped young athletes into confident leaders, leaving a lasting impact that extends far beyond the field.
Visiting hours for Erv's celebration of life will be held at The Barn at Powers' Pub, 130 Meyer Rd., Clifton Park, N.Y. 12065, on February 19, from 1 to 5 p.m.
