Richard Gary Dunn

Richard Gary Dunn, 65, of Lake Katrine, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was born on January 31, 1961 in Poughkeepsie, NY and was the son of the late Richard Otis Dunn and Jeanette Teal.

Richard was married to Kathi D. Dunn (Elander) on May 28, 1988. His love for her knew no bounds; they were immensely devoted to each other. In 1990, they moved to Lake Katrine and started their family.

Richard attended SUNY Albany where he earned his Bachelors in Economics. He worked as a plumber with his father at Richard Dunn Plumbing and Heating in Pleasant Valley, NY. In 1992, he became a real estate appraiser which led to his creation of Dunn Appraisals LLC. He enjoyed inspecting houses throughout Ulster, Orange, Rockland and Sullivan counties and was often inspired to do his own renovations and home improvement projects.

Richard approached every aspect of his life with generosity and dedication. He served for many years as a Deacon and later an Elder at Fair Street Reformed Church and was always working behind the scenes to support his church family. Mr. Richard found great joy selling Christmas Trees and working in the Garden Center at Adams Fairacre Farms in Lake Katrine where many coworkers became like family.

Richard maintained close friendships with many of his childhood friends and enjoyed their annual family camping trips and Super Bowl parties. He also enjoyed kayaking, watching the Yankees, and traveling the world with Kathi. They had a second home on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina which brought them much needed peace and joy. His grandchildren were bright lights in his life and they loved their Papa dearly, preferring him to read them bedtime stories above anyone else.

He is survived by his wife Kathi Dunn, daughter Alexandria Dunn, and granddaughters Dovasarai and Vivienne Dunn Dieudonne, his sister Barbara Dunn Smith, brother Daniel Dunn and his wife Barbara, as well as many nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by his son, Richard Zachary Dunn, and his brother-in-law, Duane Smith.

Richard was immensely loved and will be immensely missed.

The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11am at Fair Street Reformed Church, 209 Fair St., Kingston, NY.
