Ervin Walter Werner of Jackson, peacefully went to his heavenly home, September 30, 2025, at the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born October 13, 1932, to Otto F. Werner and Wilhemina Baer Werner in Tilsit, Missouri, the eighth of 9 children. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna, Missouri. He was a graduate of Perryville High School.
Ervin served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He achieved rank of Sergeant E-5 and served in Korea with construction engineers as motor and heavy equipment Sergeant.
On August 23, 1957, he married Darlene Jean Leimbach, daughter of Oswald F. Leimbach and Flora (Leuders) Leimbach. They moved to Monrovia, California.
Ervin worked at Alta Dena Dairy in the late 1950’s. He later worked at Kent Chevrolet and Becherer Buick as Body Shop Manager. Ervin loved fixing cars, and he was definitely a Buick man! For many years, he worked at Gannett Outdoor Advertising in Los Angeles. While working at Gannett a car was used on an advertising billboard in Hollywood. The car was damaged when it was hoisted up, and Ervin was sent up to repair the car. It was a very proud moment. Ervin retired in 1996, and he and Darlene moved back to Missouri.
Ervin loved to sing. He was a member of the choir at First Lutheran Church, Monrovia, Ca.; Our Savior Lutheran Church, Arcadia, Ca.; and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jackson. Ervin’s faith in God was foremost in his life. Church was very important to Ervin. He rarely missed a Sunday. He made sacrifices to see that his children got a good Christian education. He was always volunteering his time to church and school projects.
Ervin’s German heritage was also important to him. He loved German music and dancing the polka. He sported his lederhosen with pride when he attended the Phoenix Club (a German club in Anaheim, Ca.), and any time the opportunity presented itself! He spent many hours listening to his collection of German music.
Ervin loved his family. He cherished his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also had many happy memories with nieces and nephews.
Loving survivors include two sons, Mark (Annette) Werner of Jackson, Kevin (Lory) Werner of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; daughter, Patty Main (Mike) of Jackson, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene; his parents; brothers, Norman Werner, Rudy Werner, Albert Werner, Joe Sebastian, Otto Werner, Jr., Wilfred Werner, sisters, Ruby Werner Kassel and Elvira Werner Engert.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna. The Rev. Steven Theiss will conduct the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the church. Graveside committal and military honors will follow at the church cemetery.
