It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a truly extraordinary woman, Esperanza 'Hope' Garza. Born on December 18, 1937, in Victoria, Texas, Esperanza embodied her name, which means "hope" in Spanish, throughout her life. She was a beacon of light and positivity, always lending a hand, a kind word, or a comforting meal to those around her. She was the epitome of resilience, with a heart full of boundless love and generosity. Her strength and undying love for her family were her defining traits, making her the backbone of her family, a role she took on with grace and unwavering strength. She was an active member of the Guadalupanas and a devout Catholic, her faith providing a constant source of guidance and comfort throughout her life.
Hope made her home in Texas City with her husband, Nato and their 2 children. She devoted her life to her family and community. She was a loving mother, a generous grandmother, a wonderful great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, and the best mother-in-law. She had a heart that knew no bounds, always thinking of other people before herself. As a loving homemaker, her home was a sanctuary of warmth, love, and delicious food. Hope had a passion for cooking meals for her family, reading books at night, volunteering for her kids and grandkids activities, as well as, at her church and in the community, and searching for "treasures" while garage selling. Her home was always open, and her thoughtfulness extended beyond her family as she welcomed everyone with open arms and a warm meal. No one ever left her table hungry or without feeling loved. She was a generous soul whose kitchen was always filled with the aroma of love and the chatter of loved ones. Her resilience was a testament to the scripture, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future" (Proverbs 31:25). Hope created a legacy of love and generosity that will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched, and she will be greatly missed.
Hope is survived by her daughters Tricia Garza (Brian Hughes), and Sarah Taylor; her son John Camacho (Linda); her brother Mike Gomez; her grandchildren Chey Gonzales, Miranda Gonzales, Bryce Waggoner (Raelyn Gale), Michelle Farias (Eddie), Haleigh Parson (DeAnthony), Christina Pedroza, Jeffrey Pedroza, Tara Taylor, Tami Taylor, Tina Taylor, and JC Taylor; and her great-grandchildren Harper Gonzales, Arya Stark, Eddie Farias, Jr, Britney Flores, Cori Flores, Erica Melchor, Eric Melchor, and Jeric Melchor, Joseph Justice, Tiara Caldwell, Jerome Caldwell, Jayson Caldwell, Jerrod Ray, Taylor Justice, Tiana Barnett, Tiya Anderson, Neveah Booker, Isaiah Taylor, Tamia Taylor, Ely Camacho, and Julie Joy Taylor, and numerous nieces, nephews and great-great grandkids. Hope is also survived by her special boy, her cat, Charlie, as well as her grand-dogs Miracle and Sadie, and her grand-bunny, Gigi. She was preceded in death by her parents Patricio Martinez and Mary Abdo, her stepfather Tony Abdo, her husband Fortunato (Nato) Garza, her children Patrick Garza, James Camacho and Sylvia Contreras, her grandsons Jason Camacho, John Camacho, Jr, and Anthony Camacho, her sister Pilar Lira, and her brother Benjamin Martinez.
A visitation and recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City, Texas, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 5:00 pm, with the rosary being recited at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 10:00 am, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque.
We invite you all to join us in celebrating Hope's life and the joyous memories she brought to all of us by sharing those memories, stories, and photos on her memorial page. In her spirit of generosity, let's continue to share the love and warmth she gave so freely, keeping her memory alive for generations to come. And may these shared moments of love, laughter and resilience serve as a lasting tribute to a truly remarkable woman. Esperanza 'Hope' Garza's legacy will forever shine brightly through the hearts of those she loved.
