Essie Mae (Bush) Harvey, 81, of Marion, departed this life on July 15, 2025, at 6:10 pm surrounded by her family. Essie was born the daughter of the late Sam and Fannie Mae (Murrell) Bush on January 20, 1944, in Morgan City, Mississippi.
Essie was baptized at an early age in Morgan City and later moved to Marion, Indiana. She renewed her faith and was baptized at Rising Star Baptist Church. Years later, she became a devoted member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, where she helped operate the kitchen. Essie worked at RCA and Dana Corp. where she eventually retired. In her younger years, she loved hanging out with her three special friends, Delois Harvey, Dorothy Davis, and Martha Howard. She played softball and loved bowling but, like her late sister, Mary Drake-Reaves, cooking was her love language and more importantly taking care of her family.
She is survived by her four children, Kenneth (Belinda) Bush of Indianapolis, Enda Carey of Muncie, Anthony (Cicily) Harvey of Marion, and Patricia (Carl) Harvey-Moore of Marion; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews along with many cousins; her brother-in-law, Roy Harvey; and dear friend, Shirley Carradine.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Fannie Mae Bush; her siblings, Dizzie Dean Bush, Eugene Bush, Mary Drake-Reaves, and William Curtis "W.C." Bush; and step-son, Nathaniel Harvey.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Essie's life will begin at 12:00 noon with Pastor C.L. Adams officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
