Essie Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 23, 2023.
Essie Mae Taylor passed away on March 21, 2023. She was born in Elgin, Texas on January 15, 1938 as the second of four children to the parentage of Emma Milligan and Luther Ward. As a young child, she was baptized at New Lincoln Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Zion Rest Baptist Church.
Essie moved to Austin and married James Taylor, to which she was blessed with six children; James Michael Taylor (Teresita), Rosie Taylor, Geoard Taylor (Amanda), Karin Taylor (Kevin), Christopher Taylor (Evelyn) and Nicole Estelle Galbert (Michael).
Essie was a strong woman focused on family and first worked as a CNA to residents of nursing homes. She later worked as a maid for the Eldridge family where she found a love for taking care of young children. Her love for children led her to a final career as a daycare worker, where she spent many days as an "adopted" grandmother to many children of the Austin community.
Her genuine nature made Essie easy to be around and easy to talk to. She naturally made several friends as one that they could confide in and maintained a home that was well known in the neighborhood as the spot to be at. She enjoyed fishing and listening to her blues music, sometimes at the same time. But her greatest love was cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Essie was the last of her lineage and has gone to join her siblings; Rogerdale "Otis" Yancey, Z.T. "Tim" Ward, and Johnnie Mae Urquhart.
She leaves to cherish the memories her children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and other relatives.
