Estelle Knoy Obituary
In Loving Memory of Estelle Knoy:
Estelle "Sis" Lillian (Jones) Knoy, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gigi), sister, aunt, and pillar of our family, peacefully passed away at the age of 97 on July 17, 2024. She left behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and unwavering graciousness.
Born on January 22, 1927 in Washington D.C., Estelle grew up with five siblings. She was a caring sister, lovingly nicknamed "Sis". She was always there for moments big and small; birthdays, doctor appointments, weddings, and more. Estelle married Harry Knoy on May 4, 1946 and together they built a loving home filled with two children, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Over their almost 67 years of marriage, Estelle was devoted to Harry and their family. She nursed Harry back to health after a serious back injury with joy in her heart, all while caring for her two young children. They went on many long car rides together and liked to travel around the United States. Her humble and altruistic heart is a foundation of love for her family, acting as a caregiver through times of sickness and turbulence.
In her later years, Estelle continued to find joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, remaining active and engaged in life. Her love as a grandmother and great-grandmother was unmatched. She was always there to cheer them up with silver dollar pancakes, a warm hug, or for a long chat on the phone where she'd joyously listen about their adventures. Many of the great-grandchildren continue to enjoy visits to the Detroit Zoo in her honor. She wanted nothing more than to bring them happiness.
Estelle was not only devoted to her family but also deeply committed to her community. She was known for her unwavering support and compassion for her neighbors, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She loved telling stories and chatting about life. She knew a little something about everything, her knowledge was abundant. Her generous nature touched the lives of many, making her beloved. Estelle was actively involved in her church community. She dedicated herself to serving others through her church, whether it was acting as secretary for Sunday school or offering prayers and support to those in need. She was always involved in school activities and was an active participant in various groups such as Girls Scouts and Job's Daughters. Her beautiful spirit was a guiding light.
Estelle is survived by daughters Diane (Dave) and Cindy (Kevin), grandsons Jon (Stacey), Jason, Josh (Kristin), and Zachary (Monica) and great-grandchildren Joseph, Annabell, Alexandra, Nathaniel, Penelope, and Nora.
