Esther Caroline Friedhoff, age 91, beloved wife of the late Harry E. Friedhoff, passed peacefully into her heavenly home on January 7, 2026.

Esther was the loving daughter of the late Fred and Cora Hackemeyer and the dear sister of Roy Hackemeyer and his late wife, Judy. She is survived by her children: Steven (Janet), John (Peggy), Tom, Sandra (Tom) Hill of Kirkland, Washington, and Carole Friedhoff. She was a devoted grandmother to Dayne (Laura), James, Jennifer (Zack) Cochran, Ryan, Emma, Daniel, and Tyler Hill, and a cherished great-grandmother to Owen, Colin, Caroline, Aubree, and Ezra Cochran.

Born in Winton Place, Esther lived her entire life in the Winton Place and College Hill neighborhoods, deeply rooted in the community she loved. Along with her husband Harry, she was baptized, confirmed, and married at Matthew Church, where they remained faithful and active members throughout their lives. Many of their closest lifelong friendships were formed through the church, and those relationships were a source of great joy and meaning to them.

Esther and Harry spent more than 20 years at Twin Towers Senior Living Community, where they developed many treasured friendships and remained active in community life.

In addition to raising her family, Esther gave generously her time and talents. She served as a Camp Fire Girls leader, a teacher’s aide at Pleasant Hill Elementary School, a volunteer at the former Mercy Mount Airy Hospital and at Twin Towers and was a member of Eastern Star and the Winton Place Veterans of World War II Auxiliary.

Esther and Harry shared a love of travel, enjoying many car, bus, and train tours, as well as cruises throughout the Americas. Their favorite trips, however, were to Seattle, where they delighted in spending time with Sandi, Tom, and Tyler.

Visitation will be held at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6041 Hamilton Avenue, on Tuesday, January 13, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a graveside service at Spring Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception at Twin Towers Parkview Room at 12:30 to share memories of Esther.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Twin Towers and all who supported Esther during her struggle with heart failure. A special expression of gratitude is offered to the Hospice of Cincinnati team, especially Amber, Becky, Kevin, Kathy, and others, for their compassionate care over the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, the Twin Towers Foundation, or WCET-TV.
