Ethan James Snyder, 16, of Purgitsville, WV, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 as the result of an automobile accident

Born on December 20, 2009 in Petersburg, WV, he was a son of Steven Lee Keckley of Romney, WV and Anna Marie Snyder and Christopher Buckley of Purgitsville. Ethan was preceded in death by his grandmother, Michelle Keckley; three great grandmothers, Ginger VanMeter, Lena Smith and Janie Keckley and two great uncles, Lee Smith and Maurice Tovar.

Ethan brightened the world with his infectious smile and zest for life. and he was a beacon of love and joy from the beginning. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace and satisfaction in the natural world, whether he was hunting, fishing, or exploring. Ethan's love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family, who he held in the highest regard.

Ethan's passion for life extended to his hobbies and interests, including a particular love for baseball. He was known on and off the field for his commitment, sportsmanship, and the camaraderie he shared with his teammates. His radiant smile and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community, easily making friends wherever he went.

Ethan's accomplishments were many, but he carried them with humility and grace. He was incredibly proud of his family, and they reciprocated this pride, endlessly grateful for the love, joy, and unity that Ethan brought into their lives.

Surviving, in addition to his parents are one brother, Lucas Keckley of Ridgeley, WV; one sister, Laeleigh Keckley of Virginia; grandparents, Sam and Bobbie Snyder of New Creek, WV, Ronnie Keckley, Jr. and wife Brenda of Romney, WV and Robert and Debbie Buckley of Purgitsville; great grandparents, Steve and Linda Smith of Richmond, VA, Ronnie Keckley, Sr. of Romney, Robert and Linda Wolford of McCoole, MD and Karen Riche of Purgitsville. Also surviving are his uncles, Timmy Buckley and Robert Buckley, Jr.; aunts, Samantha Snyder and Vicki Lewis and husband Seth; a great aunt, Bonnie Rexrode and husband Bobby; two special cousins, Christian Davis and Hailey and a large number of extended family members.

Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 2-4 p.m.

A memorial service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Gwen Wolford officiating.

Private inurnment will be in the Elijah High Cemetery, Purgitsville, WV.
