Ethel Locklear Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Revels Funeral Home - Pembroke on Jun. 13, 2024.
Mrs. Ethel Lloyd Locklear was born August 5, 1945, and went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. She was 78 years young.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gussie Lloyd; her brother, George Edward Lloyd; siblings: Varlee, Cora Sue, Sallie Mae, Alice, Bessie, Pearline, Daniel "Bozo", Vardell, George "Buce", Terry, James Earl and Martha.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Garvie (Bo) Locklear; two daughters, Tammy (Dwayne) Cummings of Pembroke and Kimberly Jacobs of Raleigh, NC; Grandchildren, Cassidy, Dylan and Taelyn; a cousin/caregiver who was like a sister, Marion "Sealy" Holt; and a cousin who was her personal chef, Van Bethea; siblings: Arlene "Mary", Cardell and Rodney; a special niece, Marla, who called her every day. Special thanks to her on-call physician, Tyler Dial, P.A.
Ethel was a hard-working lady employed by West Point Stevens/ J.P. Stevens for 38 years. When she retired, she was working in Product Development with the Ralph Lauren Collection. Ethel's pride and joy were her daughters. And then she had grandchildren.... She loved Cassidy ("grandma's little girl"), Dylan (her "boy") and Taelyn (her "Tae/the baby") with all her heart. She loved her son-in-law, Dwayne (her "son"), who would often bring meals to her during the week.
Ethel was selfless in her love for others; always checking on the sick and shut-in while she was sick and shut-in herself. Ethel was a traveler thanks to her husband, Bo. They traveled to almost every state in the U.S. with their travel partners, Eugene and Carol. Her favorite trip was a 4-week cross-country trip in which she saw God's glory in the California Redwood trees and the Grand Canyon.
Ethel loved her church, Baker's Chapel Baptist Church. She was so glad to be able to attend services through Facebook live. She loved to hear Brother Mark and Brother Andrew pray. The church choir sang songs that lifted her soul. She often remarked on how much she loved her brother, Lindbergh Chavis, who Ethel would jokingly say was much older than her. She enjoyed their conversations about years gone by when their families would work together in the tobacco fields.
For all those who called and visited her while she was sick and shut-in, our family thanks you and is forever grateful for your love and care.
Ethel worked hard, she loved hard, and she was ready to go home. Our family is comforted in knowing that she has a new body in Heaven and is safely in the arms of Jesus.
