Ethel McCoy Obituary

Ethel McCoy
Bethalto - Ethel Rose McCoy, a lifelong resident of Roxana, Il, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Born on August 29, 1926, to German and Irish immigrants, Ethel lived a long and beautiful life filled with love, generosity, and the simple joys of family.
Ethel had a remarkable talent for sewing - from tailoring everyday clothes and suits to creating intricate prom dresses, her attention to detail reflected the love she poured into her family and friends.
She and her beloved husband, Arnie, shared countless adventures exploring the Midwest in their Suburban with their camper in tow. Together, they found joy in the open road, small towns, and the beauty of shared experiences with friends.
The McCoy home was always a place of warmth and welcome. Throughout her children's lives and well into their adulthood, Ethel's house remained a gathering place for family and friends. She had a special gift for making everyone feel at home - often through a delicious meal, lively conversation, and her ever-present smile. Her love of cooking was legendary; her homemade dumplings, hearty soups, and generous portions were shared freely with anyone lucky enough to sit at her bar.
Outside, her garden reflected her gentle spirit. Her roses bloomed with care, and her birdbath became a haven for feathered visitors she loved to watch.
Ethel's life was one of quiet strength, kindness, and devotion - to her family, her friends, and the small, meaningful acts of love that turn a house into a home. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, hospitality, and the belief that there is always room for one more at the table.
Ethel married James A. McCoy on July 3, 1946, in Edwardsville, and he preceded her in death on February 19, 2007. Survivors include two sons and a daughter in law, Randy and Lori McCoy of East Alton, Jim McCoy of Texas; two grandchildren, Christi DeCuir of Bellingham, WA, Luke and Chrissy Rives of Edwardsville; four great grandchildren, Soren DeCuir, Lena DeCuir, Boden Rives, Stevie Rives, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Rives; two sisters, Florence Rohlfing, Rosalie Lucas; two brothers, Louis Lucas, and Bill Lucas.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral services at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Pitchford Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
A joint celebration of Ethel's life and her daughter, Sue's life will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Wigglers in Holiday Shores.
