Ethel Mae (Brown) Ridenour, 86, of Latrobe, passed away Friday, August 30, 2024 at Independence Health System Latrobe Hospital.
Born May 10, 1938 in Ligonier, she was a daughter of the late Merle C. Brown Sr. and Viola (Dillinger) Brown.
Ethel raised six children, but every child that entered her home became hers. She was "Mom" to all, and then her greatest joys promoted her to everyone's "Nana." Her nickname, "Joe," as in Joe Frazier, suited her well with her fighting spirit.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Latrobe Area Hospital and had also worked at Walmart. She loved to volunteer and had a passion for helping others. She was also always quick to lend a hand or offer advice.
Ethel loved to do puzzles, and her favorite ones decorate the halls of the Latrobe Masonic Building. For over twenty years, Ethel made her home in the Masonic Building apartments and was so blessed with all of her friends there who became family to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Horner Jr; five brothers, Gerald, Russell, Gilbert, D. Glenn, and Larry B. Brown Sr; and three sisters, Carrie Legas, Doris Haase, and Sylvia Rolla.
Ethel is survived by her six children, Darlene Alford (Terry), Barbara Ridenour (Steve), Thomas Ridenour (Christie), Sandra Snyder (Joseph), Scott Meoni-Ridenour (Bill), and Susan Horner (Jeff); two brothers, Phillip H. "Bud" Brown (Mary) and Merle C. Brown Jr. (Rose); 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no public visitations or services. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by the Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. To sign the online guest book, send condolences, or share a story, please visit www.lopatichbrinker.com.

As time has gone on we drift apart as a family, you don't see many relatives as much as you would like. We are getting older too, but memories of a strong willed woman, great mother and a very patient person. Proud to call her my Aunt.
