Eugene Veler Obituary
Eugene "Gene" J. Veler, 89, and his wife, Patty L. Dailey Veler, 88, both of Powhatan, Virginia, passed away in late 2022. Gene was born and raised in Bono, OH, was a U.S. Army veteran and retired as Director of Environmental Services at Iowa Methodist Medical Center (IMMC) in Des Moines, IA. Patty was born and raised in Toledo, OH, and was a registered nurse since 1955. Patty retired as a nursing supervisor from IMMC. Throughout their 67-year marriage, they lived in six different states, two of them twice. During retirement, they enjoyed spending time with their family and traveling in their RV. Patty spent her time quilting and Gene wrote a column for the local paper and served as proofreader.
They are survived by their two daughters, Shelly Hale (Bruce) and Karole Hanson; grandchildren, Courtney Lassiter (Justin), Alyse Hilton (Luke), Megan Smith (Trevor), Mackenzie Hernandez (Nick), Jack Hanson, Natalie Hanson, Maddie Hanson; and seven great-grandchildren. They are also survived by two sons and two granddaughters who have requested not to be named. In addition, Patty is survived by her sister, Maita Jarkewcicz (Gary); and brother, Bill Dailey (Karen). Their ashes will be interred at Toledo Memorial Park on June 17.
