A Good and Faithful Servant, Devoted Husband, Father, and Grandfather.
With heavy hearts and eyes lifted toward Heaven, we announce that Eugene Paul Buechele - our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and servant of the Lord, has gone home to be with his Savior. He entered eternal life at the age of 79, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. While our hearts ache in his absence, we rejoice in the truth that he is now in the presence of Jesus, whole and at peace.
Born on September 25, 1945, Eugene was raised in Glendale, New York, where he first learned the values of hard work, faith, and family. He found joy in the simple pleasures.
Eugene married the love of his life, Rachel Buechele, on September 20, 1969 and together they built a marriage grounded in love, sacrifice, and deep devotion. They shared 55 beautiful years together, walking hand in hand through every season. They built their life together in their home in Franklin Square, New York for 41 years until moving to Camden Wyoming, Delaware. He adored her, cared for her selflessly, and remained by her side with unwavering love. Their union was not just a marriage, it was a holy covenant, an example to all who witnessed it.
Eugene was the proud father of five children:
- Michael Buechele (Camden Wyoming, Delaware)
- Linda Kutner (Magnolia, Delaware), married to David Kutner
- Thomas Buechele (Brooklyn, New York)
- Melissa Giannandrea (Massapequa Park, New York), married to James Giannandrea
- Matthew Buechele (Camden Wyoming, Delaware)
He poured his heart and soul into raising his family. He led by example with humility, grace, and unshakable faith in God. He was a pillar of strength and a constant source of comfort and wisdom. Eugene's love extended to his grandchildren: Halie Kutner, Ashley Kutner, Andrew Kutner, Ryan Kutner, Vincent Giannandrea, and Nicholas Giannandrea, and his precious great-grandchildren: Liam Adlam, Hudson Pendexter, and Sadie Adlam.
Eugene is also survived by his loving sister, Jeannette Hoermann He was preceded in death by his parents - Eugene F. Buechele and Helen Buechele, and his dear sister, Carol Johanesen, who we believe greeted him joyfully at the gates of Heaven.
Eugene dedicated many years of his life to working in New York City, before transitioning to a different firm on Long Island. He continued in this career until he retired at the age of 71, after which he and Rachel moved to Delaware. He was known for his precision and sharp memory - especially his remarkable ability to recall names, dates, and birthdays without fail. His career in insurance underwriting was marked by diligence, honesty, and humility, but his true life's work was loving and serving his family.
A lifelong sports fan, Eugene had a deep passion for baseball, especially cheering on the New York Mets. He also enjoyed other sports, games, and the simple thrill of competition. But nothing delighted him more than his sweet tooth: ice cream, desserts, cookies - he truly LOVED sweets, and his joy over a slice of cake or bowl of ice cream was contagious. He especially had a love for burnt hot dogs and barbecues with his family. He also loved taking day trips across his beloved Long Island, New York, especially to farms and family attractions, finding happiness in the simple pleasures close to home and creating cherished memories along the way. He brought joy to every family gathering with his warm presence and his favorite foods. He made Christmas extra special for his children growing up by taking them each year to dinner at the Milleridge Inn in Jericho, New York, a tradition that lives on in our hearts. We also spent Christmas Day at home all together, opening gifts and celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His joy over the holidays and the little moments is a testament to how deeply he loved his family and created lasting memories for us all.
Eugene was a deeply spiritual and godly man, a devout Catholic who belonged to Holy Cross Church in Dover, Delaware, and previously to St. Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church in Franklin Square, New York. He attended Mass every single morning before work, offering his day to the Lord in prayer and praise. He was a quiet but powerful example of what it means to live a life centered on Jesus Christ. His faith wasn't something he spoke loudly about, it was something you could see in the way he lived, loved, and gave.
He took his role as the spiritual head of the family seriously - praying over his children, guiding with scripture, and reflecting the heart of Christ in all he did. He lived a life of service: to God, to his church, and most beautifully, to his family. He took tender care of his wife, was always present for his children and grandchildren, and through his daily actions, he taught us how to love selflessly, serve quietly, and cherish the simple, sacred moments of life.
He had a warmth, a wit, and a charm that made everyone feel seen and loved. Who could forget his playful humor and signature song: "On the good ship lollipop by Shirley Temple" - a song that now lives on as a tender and sweet echo in our hearts.
As Eugene's time on earth came to a close, we know Heaven stood ready. We are comforted by the truth that he was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, greeted with the words:
"Well done, my good and faithful servant. Your mission is complete. Welcome home."
