Eugene "Butch" Derflinger, 81, passed away on March 27, 2025, at St. Anthony's Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Lafayette, Indiana. Born on December 8, 1943, in Morocco, Indiana, Butch lived a full and vibrant life rooted in hard work, laughter, and deep devotion to his family.
Butch was known for his fun-loving spirit and quick wit. A natural jokester with a warm heart, he brought joy to those around him and never missed an opportunity to share a laugh. He enjoyed time on the golf course, woodworking in his basement workshop, and camaraderie at the card table, where he enjoyed many spirited games with friends and loved ones.
Family was at the center of Butch’s world. He shared a loving marriage with his late wife, Bonnie Derflinger, whose memory remained close to his heart. Together they raised four children: Steve Derflinger, Brian (Lisa) Derflinger, Kevin (Trudy) Derflinger, and Mandy (Frank) Narcaroti. Butch also cherished his role as a grandfather to eight grandchildren (Brandon, Taylor, Joshua, Zachary, Ashley, Nathan, Brody, Collin, and Grace) and great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren (Grayson, Emmett, Maelynn, Grayson, Bonnie, and Maebree). Though he mourned the loss of his grandson Jacob Derflinger, he continued to find strength in the bonds of family.
He is also remembered by his brother David and sister Rena. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Georgia Derflinger and siblings Gaylord, Ronald, Doris, Maynard, Lois, Carol, and Gordon.
A wake will be held in honor of Eugene "Butch" Derflinger Saturday, April 5, 2025 (CST) from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial service will follow at 5pm.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Butch’s legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired and the love he gave so freely. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
