Eugene Colucci, age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 28, 2023, after a battle with cancer. Eugene was born to Eugene and Dorothy on July 6, 1954. He resided in Rockaway, Queens throughout his youth before departing to study at Niagara University. Gene later returned to Queens and completed his master's at St. John's University. Eventually he and his wife Elizabeth settled in Eastchester, NY where they raised their family.
Eugene, a loving husband and father, was exceedingly patient and a wise counselor. A great listener, he had a knack for providing thoughtful and grounded guidance when asked to do so. He is fondly remembered for his sense of humor, willingness to help others and never ending kindness.
Passionate about gardening, Eugene enjoyed spending time in his yard. He spent much of his downtime tending flowers, his pond, and fountain. Movies were a lifelong source of joy for Gene. He particularly liked going to the movies with his sons John and Gene III.
Gene's favorite time of year was Christmas. He enjoyed decorating his home extensively, sharing meals with loved ones and giving gifts. His love for Christmas reached it's height when he began dressing up as Santa for his grandchildren.
An avid collector of antiques, Gene became an expert on Meissen porcelain. He most enjoyed trading pieces, frequently attending shows, and collaborating with other collectors.
An accountant by trade, Eugene worked in finance for his entire career, making a special mark in the healthcare sector. His career started at Blue Cross followed by NYC Health and Hospital, Touche Ross, Mount Vernon Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and more recently Bridgeport Hospital. At Greenwich, Gene served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer for the past 34 years. Under his leadership as CFO of Greenwich, the hospital achieved profitability which it continued throughout his career. Gene was integral in affiliating Greenwich Hospital with the Yale New Haven Health System. He helped lead the capital campaign that transformed the Greenwich campus into the facility it is today. This included the construction of the new Hospital (Helmsley and Watson Pavilions) as well as the Bendheim Cancer Center. He led the creation of the beautiful community garden which has been a place of peace and reflection for the community, patients, and staff. In collaboration with Information Technology, he led the implementation of the first electronic medical record system at Greenwich Hospital. He was a kind leader and mentor to many who cared deeply about the team. Gene was the motivation behind holiday decorations at the hospital which brightened the staff and patients' days. Gene was named CFO of the year by Fairfield County Business Journal in 2013 and was honored with Greenwich Hospital's Marian Nowak award in 2022.
Gene is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 42 years, his son John and wife Liz, Eugene and his fiancée Amanda. Gene has two amazing grandchildren, Julian (4) and Luca (2). He also is survived by his sisters Corinne and her husband Ray, Dorothy and her husband Louis, and many nephews and nieces. Eugene is pre-deceased by his parents Eugene and Dorothy, his brother Thomas, Mother-in-Law Anna and Father-in-law John DeGrazia.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Greenwich Hospital in Eugene's honor at https://giving.greenhosp.org/honor-eugene-gene-colucci/
Your gift, in Gene Colucci's honor and memory, will be directed to the Greenwich Hospital Equipment Imperatives Fund, a fund that provides Greenwich Hospital's medical staff maximum flexibility to acquire leading-edge technology and equipment to ensure the finest care possible for patients. I´m saddened to hear of Gene´s passing-
I had the occasion to work for Gene on several occasions in the 80s and later from 95 to 2000. Gene was always fair and considerate with great questions with a wry sense of humor- He had a quizzical look when you know he needed more information. I respected him and will miss him.
With kind regards and sympathy to his family,
Mark Pulczinski

I met Gene in March of 2022 via a Meissen page on Facebook. At the time my knowledge on the subject of Meissen was very limited his was exceptional.
He was more than willing to share that knowledge with me. He taught me alot on the subject. I'm extremely grateful for that.

We started out discussing porcelain before long we were discussing family, gardening (his flowers, my vegetables)and life. We had some great conversations and great laughs.
I'm truly sorry to hear of his passing,my condolences.

Gene and I were roommates our freshman year at Niagara 1972-73. I had the top bunk, he had the bottom. What I remember most was his interest in music. He had this little record player and he would listen to it late at night. Luckily he was very considerate and used head phones. Thoughts and prayers to family.

I worked with Gene at Greenwich Hospital and he became a friend and mentor. I admired him for his wit and intelligence and always noticed how he could consistently recall financial detail in seconds. I told our colleagues that he had a mind like a steel trap yet he was humble and kind. I will miss him. My condolences to to all his family who he adored.

I worked with Gene for many years during the development of the Yale New Haven Health System. Those were some tense times at every level. But not so much when Gene was involved. His sense of humor and his genuinely kind way made the process easier on us all.

I began work very early each day in New Haven and when the phone rang at 6:30am I knew it was Gene and I was happy to talk with him. He was a very nice man and is gone much too soon. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Laurie Cahill

Mr. Colucci (Gene) was such a special person in my life. During my high school years, his son John and I were best friends. I practically lived at their house and my parents would beg me to come home, but I never wanted to leave because I felt so comfortable there. The Colucci's are very generous and wonderful people. Mr. Colucci used to take me, John and Gene out on Sundays for movies and dinner after, sometimes ice cream too! They always made me feel like I was a part of their family and I'll never forget that. They're a wonderful family and this is a terrible terrible loss. My deepest of condolences. -Pete Albano Jr.
