Eugene Cooper, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, in Newark, at the age of 79. Born on July 5, 1946, in Columbia, SC he was raised in Newark and has also been a life-long resident. Eugene lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep love for his family.
Eugene shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joan McCall, whose companionship and love were the cornerstones of his happiness. Together, they built a family that included their son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Mary Hicks of Keansburg.
A proud grandfather, Eugene was blessed with eight grandchildren: TJ, Teshemma, Marty, Meta, Anthony, Cheryl, JB, and Lisa who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and his guidance and love will live on in their hearts. Eugene's joy was further multiplied by the presence of his five great-grandchildren, who were the light of his later years.
Though he is pre-deceased by his granddaughter, Tiki, Eugene's spirit of resilience and love continues to inspire all who knew him.
Eugene dedicated his service with the Teamsters Union Local #472 Laborer's Union. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and always ready to support his fellow workers.
Beyond his professional life, Eugene was a man of simple pleasures. He had a passion for sports, which he both watched and discussed with enthusiasm. His willingness to lend a helping hand was well-known within his family and friends.
Eugene's life was a testament to the power of simplicity, kindness, and unwavering love for one's family. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his many extended family members and friends, whose lives he touched with his gentle spirit and generous heart.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Ave. Keansburg, NJ. Cremation will be private.
