Eugene (Gene) Ellsworth, of Tilton formerly of Seabrook, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton. He was 96 years old.
Born on September 12, 1927, in Melrose, MA, Gene was the son of the late Lee and Lillian (Weir) Ellsworth. Gene was raised in Melrose and attended Essex Agricultural (Aggie) High School in Danvers, MA. At the age of 18, Gene enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served with the 720th Military Police Battalion in Japan until 1947.
Returning home from the service, Gene purchased his own dairy farm in Salisbury, MA. As his passion for dairy farming grew, he purchased other dairy farms in Somersworth, NH and North Berwick, ME. He worked for nearly 20 years as a dairy farmer. After farming, he sold farm products for IBA Dairy Supplies until his retirement at the age of 62.
Gene enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with his late wife, Beatrice. He loved being a dairy farmer and was an avid gardener, who could be found tending to his crops well into his 90s. He enjoyed square dancing, playing bingo and woodworking. He was a talented stain glass artist and made many beautiful creations for his children and grandchildren to cherish.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 20 years, Beatrice (Blocker) Ellsworth and his siblings Evelyn Pilgrim and Earl Ellsworth.
He is survived by his children. Robert and his wife Rosemary Ellsworth of Seabrook, NH, Cynthia and her husband Joe Landers of North Hampton and Cheryl Fairbanks of Exeter, NH. His step children Patti and her husband Scott Bailey of Bow, NH and Carol Stone of Tilton. He is also survived by grandchildren: Beque, Sonia, Nathaniel, Robert, Steven, Jessica, Jaime and Christy as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
