Eugene Gallagher Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 29, 2026.
Eugene Gallagher passed peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Patricia (Noonan) Gallagher. Eugene was born in Hartford, CT, in 1934. The son of Irish immigrants, he proudly graduated from Trinity College in 1956, where he played baseball and studied economics. He spent his career in banking. He and Patricia moved to Manchester, CT, shortly after marrying and spent over 60 years raising their family there. Over the years, he enjoyed traveling, sports, especially golf, the beach, the Boston Red Sox and UConn basketball. He loved sitting on his deck, grilling a steak, sipping a martini and watching the airplanes overhead and calling out where they were headed. He loved family vacations and holiday gatherings with the whole crew. He was always up for a road trip or a spontaneous adventure.

He is survived by his 5 children, James & Donna (Barry) Gallagher, Mary & John Guinan, Joe & Carol (Warner) Gallagher, Patricia J. Gallagher and Katherine & Greg Mlodzinski. He enjoyed keeping up with his 10 grandchildren, Caitlin (Jonathan), Colleen (Ben), Patrick, Maggie, Laura (Jackson), Alison, Jillian, Sarah and Daniel and one great grandson, Kai. He leaves behind his sister, Kathleen Griffin (MA). He was predeceased by his grandson, Adam Mlodzinski, his brother John Gallagher and sister Dr. Dorothy Lowery.

Calling hours will be held at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street in Manchester, CT, on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Saint Bartholomew's Church, 736 Middle Turnpike E. in Manchester, CT.

It was truly a privilege to work with Gene through physical therapy. He brought such joy and energy to our PT sessions-he genuinely loved to exercise, and I always looked forward to hearing his stories about dinner outings with his kids and his appreciation for a great drink. His spirit, humor, and love for life left a lasting impression on me. He will be deeply missed, and I hope you find comfort in the many wonderful memories you shared together.
