On April 5, 1986, he married Lori Mangin at St. Mary Catholic Church in Reedsville. Gene was a truck driver, and he drove semi for all of his career. Gene enjoyed going to breakfast with his trucking buddies, coffee at the Reedsville co-op with his friends, camping, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his treasured grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife, Lori of Reedsville; their daughter: Christy of Manitowoc; grandchildren: Garrett, Brevet, Aaliyah, and Devonte; his siblings and in-laws: Patricia (Larry) Crowell of Manitowoc, Beverly Parker of Two Rivers, Vern Bauknecht of Reedsville, Larry (Barb) Bauknecht of Hendersonville, TN, Sue (Bob) Steeber of Menchalville, Mary (Gene) Savage of Kimberly, Rita (Montie) Simmons-Locklear of Surfside Beach, SC, Bob (Marge) Bauknecht of Reedsville, Dave (Debbie) Bauknecht of Reedsville, Brian (Barb) Bauknecht of Jackson, MO, Tom Parker of Manitowoc, Janelle(Tom) Schad of Collins, Marlene Mangin of Manitowoc, George (Nancy) Mangin of Manitowoc, and Charles Mangin of Manitowoc; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: George & Lillian (Kratz) Mangin; two brother-in-laws: Tom and John; and other relatives.

Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Father Matthew Colle and Deacon Greg VanThiel. Entombment will be at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

Online condolences may be made www.pielhop.com

The family would like to thank the Reedsville First Responders and the Valders Ambulance for their care and compassion over these last couple of years. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Gene’s Heart Transplant Donor and their family. This heart gave him 1403 more days with his family to love them and gave him the opportunity to see Garrett graduate, Brevet grow into a caring and responsible young man, Aaliyah do what she loves and dance on stage, and Devonte find his voice so he could hear his special little buddy say “Papa” for the first time just this year. His family will miss the best Husband, Dad, and Grandpa/Papa anyone could ever ask for.
