Eugene “Gene” Michael Kroener, 83, of North Fond Du Lac, died unexpectedly Wednesday May 1st, 2024. He was born on Feb 18th,1941, in Waupun to the late Leonard and Laura (Boehlke) Kroener.
Eugene graduated from Waupun high school in 1959. Following graduation, Eugene served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963 stationed in Germany where he met the love of his life Waltraud Ruth Goerich.
They were married in Langen, Germany on May 31st, 1963. After the completion of his military service, Eugene and Waltraud returned to the states and moved to Waupun. After several years they settled in North Fond Du Lac.
Eugene was a machinist the majority of his life, working at various companies, eventually retiring from Tecumseh in 2008. In addition to working full-time, Eugene enjoyed helping people in the area with maintenance-based items around their home.
Eugene enjoyed collecting and driving British sports cars, along with gardening and landscaping. In the winter when he couldn’t be outside he would spend time making his very own candles. He especially enjoyed time with family whether it was a drive in the country, birthday celebrations or family trips to Europe. Over the last several years, Eugene had a unique passion for family heritage and gathering the facts and photos from his family over the past 180+ years.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Ruth Kroener of North Fond Du Lac. Two sons; Michael (Cheri) Kroener of St Cloud and Derrick Kroener of Lamartine. Grandchildren; Adam (Amanda), Kyle, Journey and Sophia Kroener. Blake (Shelby) and Kain Roepke / girlfriend Michelle Merfeld. Great-grandchildren; Haylee, Rylee, Carlee and Hyde Kroener. Further survived by Nephews; Stefan (Heike), Klaus and Philipp Goerich. And special family friend, Emanuella Selusniak.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Duane Kroener, along with his Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law and Nephew in Germany.
A celebration of Life will take place at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N Park Ave, Fond du Lac on Thursday, May 9th, 2024, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. A brief service at 1:00 PM followed by lunch at the Eagles Club.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all those who responded to Gene’s needs that day.
