Eugene G. Gravener, Jr. passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on January 11, 2022. He was 101. Gene was a longtime resident of Southampton NJ and Marlton NJ. He was the beloved husband of 59 years of the late Charlotte E. Gravener (nee Kille) and the loving father of Bob; Chuck and his wife, Joan; and Nancy and her husband, Joe Norton. Six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren adored their grandpop. He was born in Collingswood, NJ and preceded in death by his parents, Eugene, Sr. and Nellie (nee Appleman) Gravener and his brother, Ken. Gene was a proud World War II US ARMY veteran. He was a member of the China Burma India Theater and flew 155 air missions over the Himalayas, known as "The Hump". He drove in the first convoy over the Ledo Road, which was built during the war to connect India and China. For his heroic service, he was awarded the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Asiatic Medal. Mr. Gravener was a truck driver and drove over 60 years for various trucking companies in South Jersey and also owned his own trucking business, G and C Trucking. With his wife, Gene was a longtime active member of Marlton United Methodist Church and prior to that, Asbury United Methodist Church in Camden. He was truly the greatest of the great, brave, strong, loving, and dearly devoted to his family. He was our center, our everything, a true legend, now at peace with his beautiful and beloved Charlotte. At a later date, a Celebration of Gene's 101 wonderful years will be held when family and friends can gather safely. Mr. Gravener will be laid to rest with his wife at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene's memory to either the Marlton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1160, Marlton NJ 08053 or the Moorestown Visiting Nurses Association, 300 Harper Drive, Moorestown NJ. 08057. Funeral arrangements by Bradley Funeral Home, Marlton NJ.
